Bombay to Barcelona Café (Mumbay, India)

Founded by former street child turned famous author Amin Sheikh, the Bombay to Barcelona Café is a social enterprise that supports disadvantaged youth in Mumbai by providing employment opportunities and supporting partner NGO Snehasadan. After a struggling youth on the streets of Mumbai Amin became inspired to help others avoid the same fate and recently opened the café, with the aim to provide equal opportunity to the youth of Mumbai and help them to reach their full potential.

This is what Amin said as to its dream of opening a café:

"I want to open a coffee shop with a library. In this coffee shop all the workers, girls and boys, will come from my orphanage, Snehasadan. Because when the kids leave there, I don’t want them to go back on the street. They need a place they can call home. There are many children who struggle to cope with their lives. Some of them have trained to be carpenters or welders, drivers or electricians. There will be a board at the coffee shop, and when someone comes in and asks for a carpenter or an electrician or whatever, they will find the phone numbers of these children-turned-professionals on the board.

Sometimes I feel, there is no value for human beings in this country. If my coffee shop is successful, I will help some of our children."

About the organiser: Although his life was far from easy, Amin never forgot believing in the goodness of people and the idea that it only takes one person to change the world. And he started to dream: to write a book and with its profit to open a café that supports street children. A coffee shop with a library where street children (and workers alike) can find a safe heaven and a place that they can call home. You can support this dream by purchasing his book: an autobiographical story which goes to the heart, full of joy, pain and courage to face life and the invincible power of love which shines through even in the darkest hours.
